Qunying Song (宋群英)

I am a Postdoctoral Researcher at University College London, hosted by Professors Federica Sarro and Mark Harman. My research interests include software testing for autonomous driving systems, where I explore search-based and generative AI techniques, alongside the fields of SE4AI and AI4SE more generally. I earned my PhD in Computer Science from Lund University, Sweden, in 2024, supported by the WASP program, under the supervision of Professor Per Runeson and Dr. Emelie Engström. Prior to my doctoral studies, I obtained my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Software Engineering from Kristianstad University, Sweden, in 2012 and 2013, respectively, and worked as a software engineer at several companies, including Ericsson, Alibaba, and Qlik.   • [2026/03/27] Our paper entitled “Generative AI for Testing of Autonomous Driving Systems: A Survey” was accepted by the TOSEM journal.

  • [2025/04/08] I gave a talk on “Critical Scenario Identification for Testing Autonomous Driving Systems” at the SSY seminar, King’s College London (KCL), UK.
  • [2025/02/04] Our paper entitled “Synthetic vs. Real: An Analysis of Critical Scenarios for Autonomous Vehicle Testing” was accepted by the ASE journal.
  • [2025/01/15] I started as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the SOLAR group in the Department of Computer Science at University College London (UCL), UK.
  • [2024/11/15] I defended my PhD thesis entitled “Critical Scenario Identification for Testing of Realistic Autonomous Driving Systems” at Lund University, Sweden.
  • [2024/08/27] I gave a talk on experience sharing to junior PhD students at the WASP Community Building Summer School 2024 in Norrköping, Sweden.
  • [2024/07/19] I presented our paper entitled “An Empirically Grounded Path Forward for Scenario-Based Testing of Autonomous Driving Systems” at the FSE conference in Porto de Galinhas, Brazil.
  • [2024/06/20] Our paper entitled “Threats to Validity in Software Engineering – hypocritical paper section or essential analysis?” was accepted by the ESEM conference.
  • [2024/04/25] I gave a talk on “Critical Scenario Identification for Testing Autonomous Driving Systems” at the TestCoast conference in Gothenburg, Sweden.
  • [2024/04/15] I presented our paper entitled “Generating Executable Test Scenarios from Autonomous Vehicle Disengagements Using Natural Language Processing” at the SEAMS conference, co-located with ICSE, in Lisbon, Portugal.
  • [2024/04/03] I was awarded the “WASP International Postdoc Scholarship” for postdoctoral research by the Knut och Alice Wallenbergs Foundation.
  • [2023/12/21] Our paper entitled “Industry Practices for Challenging Autonomous Driving Systems with Critical Scenarios” was accepted by the TOSEM journal.
  • [2023/08/01] I finished a three-month research visit at King’s College London (KCL), UK, hosted by Professor Mohammad Reza Mousavi.
